HM Land Registry registers title to land in England
and Wales and records changes in land ownership. It is a self-financing
Government Executive Agency.
We shall improve productivity by:
- reducing casework completion times
(particularly for new titles)
- maintaining current staffing levels
- training staff to handle the full
range of casework.
We shall upgrade our IT infrastructure:
- converting more records into electronic
form
- enabling our customers to lodge simple
applications electronically
- progressing towards electronic conveyancing.
The Quinquennial Review will
bring about a ten year programme of work that will bring the biggest change
to land registration services in England and Wales since the great reforms
of 1925. By 2011, the Land Registry will be the key component in a conveyancing
process that is much faster and more secure. If approved by Ministers,
this programme will start in 2001-02.
