Inside the Land Registry

Land Registry is a Government Department, Executive Agency and Trading Fund responsible to the Lord Chancellor. It is self-financing and makes no call on public funds.

Its main purpose is to register title to land in England and Wales and to record dealings once the land is registered. The Land Registry's Headquarters is in London.

In 2001-02, the Land Registry:

  • generated an income of £348.2 million (up 14.8%)
  • will pay a £18.102 million dividend to the Consolidated Fund.
  • received 16% more applications
  • achieved all its key performance targets
  • gained its fourth consecutive Charter Mark.
